Destiny 2: The Final Shape is now available, bringing the concluding chapter of Destiny’s decade long Light and Darkness storyline to players across major platforms. The expansion sends Guardians into the Traveler itself to confront the Witness, and sets up a new era of post campaign storytelling through a redesigned content format called Episodes.

What is new in The Final Shape

Bungie’s headline addition is The Pale Heart, a new destination described as a fractured landscape inside the Traveler that echoes the Guardians’ past. According to Bungie and Xbox Wire, familiar locations and artifacts appear throughout the environment, then become increasingly distorted as the narrative moves toward the Monolith and the Witness’s influence deepens.

The expansion also introduces the Dread, the first brand new enemy species added to the Destiny universe since the Scorn arrived with Forsaken. Bungie describes the Dread as devoted followers of the Witness, designed to match the unsettling tone of the Pale Heart.

Prismatic subclass and Transcendence

The Final Shape adds Prismatic, a customizable subclass system that lets players mix abilities from both Light and Darkness toolkits. Xbox Wire notes that Prismatic is designed to feel like its own identity, even though it draws on existing Arc, Solar, Void, Stasis, and Strand elements. PlayStation’s preview also highlights new Transcendence power moments tied to Prismatic gameplay.

Three new Supers

Alongside Prismatic, Bungie adds three new Supers, one for each class, aimed at giving endgame players more options for high damage, control, and team utility.

Warlock: Song of Flame (Solar)

Salvation’s Edge raid and endgame schedule

The expansion’s flagship endgame activity is Salvation’s Edge, a new raid centered on the final confrontation with the Witness. Bungie’s This Week in Destiny post notes the World First race broadcast begins on June 7 at 10 AM PT, and also shares a short maintenance window on June 7 starting at 6 AM PT to prepare servers for the event.

Episodes replace seasons

After the campaign, Destiny 2 moves from its previous seasonal structure to Episodes. Bungie and PlayStation describe Episodes as standalone story arcs released throughout the year, each split into three Acts that roll out every six weeks with new quests, activities, rewards, and artifact mods.

Xbox Wire identifies the three Episodes in the year of The Final Shape as Echoes, Revenant, and Heresy. Bungie’s June 6 update also lists Echoes launching on June 11, kicking off the first post campaign storyline.

PC support note

PC players should note that Steam lists June 4, 2024 as the date Destiny 2 ended support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Windows 10 64 bit or later is recommended for ongoing updates.
