Starfield releases on Xbox Series X/S and PC.

Starfield is now available on Xbox Series X|S and Windows PC. Developed by Bethesda Game Studios and published by Bethesda Softworks, the sci fi RPG invites players into a new setting called the Settled Systems, where they can create a character, join factions, build ships, and explore planets across a vast star map.

What players can expect

Bethesda describes Starfield as a next generation role playing game built around player freedom. Players can customize their character, develop skills, and take on missions from multiple organizations. Exploration is a major focus, with ship travel, space encounters, and planetary locations ranging from major cities to remote outposts.

Ship building is one of the headline systems. Players assemble spacecraft from modular parts, then use them for travel and space combat. Outpost building is also included, letting players establish production hubs and resource networks.

Game Pass and cloud play

Xbox confirmed Starfield launched day one with Game Pass, with support for Cloud, PC, and Xbox Series X|S. Cloud access can allow players on supported devices to stream the game without a dedicated install, depending on region and subscription tier.

Early access and editions

Ahead of the September 6 launch, Xbox highlighted that early access began on September 1, 2023 for Premium Edition owners, Premium Edition Upgrade buyers, and the Constellation Edition. Premium versions also include additional digital bonuses and the first story expansion, Shattered Space, as part of the Premium package.

Where to buy

Starfield is available digitally on the Microsoft Store (Xbox and Windows) and on Steam. Players can typically pay using storefront balance, including Xbox and Microsoft gift cards for Microsoft Store purchases and Steam Wallet codes for Steam.
