NetherRealm describes Mortal Kombat 1 as a franchise reset. Familiar characters return with redesigned origins and relationships, and the story campaign is structured around cinematic chapters that follow multiple fighters through the conflict.
Kameo Fighters are the game’s signature gameplay addition. In matches, players can call on a selected Kameo partner to extend combos, create pressure, or escape danger. The system is designed to add variety without replacing the one on one foundation of Mortal Kombat combat.
