  • Platform: PlayStation 5
  • Publisher and developer: Square Enix

What is new in Rebirth

Square Enix positions Rebirth as a major expansion in scope compared with Remake. Players travel across large regions that include iconic locations from the original 1997 game, with a mix of story missions, exploration, optional activities, and new minigames.

Combat builds on Remake’s real time and command hybrid system, adding new team mechanics. Rebirth introduces synergy abilities and attacks designed to encourage coordinated play between party members, alongside fresh enemy encounters and boss battles.

Editions and bonuses

Rebirth released with multiple purchase options on the PlayStation Store, including a Standard Edition and Digital Deluxe Edition. Some editions and pre order offers include extra in game items, such as accessories, summons, and other bonuses, depending on region and storefront timing.

PS5 features

On PS5, the game offers performance options that target higher frame rates or higher visual fidelity, and includes support for DualSense features such as haptic feedback and adaptive triggers.

Why it matters

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was one of the biggest RPG launches of 2024, and it is a common pick for fans who buy digital content with PlayStation Store balance. PlayStation gift cards remain a popular way to purchase the game or send it as a gift, depending on the recipient’s region.
