Trailer highlights
The reveal trailer leans heavily into the expansion’s darker tone and mythic imagery, teasing the Realm of Shadow and new threats connected to Miquella. The footage also hints at a prominent new figure, Messmer, whose flame is referenced in official descriptions of the DLC’s setting.
How to access the DLC in-game
According to PlayStation’s official game overview, players will need to defeat two optional bosses in the base game before the new area becomes available: Starscourge Radahn and Mohg, Lord of Blood. After those fights, the expansion path begins by interacting with Miquella’s cocoon at the Mohg encounter site.
Editions and bundles
Digital storefronts list multiple purchasing options. The Standard Expansion includes the DLC content, while premium bundles add extras like a digital artbook and an original soundtrack. Physical bundles and special editions vary by region and retailer, so check local listings for availability.
Why it matters
Elden Ring’s first major expansion is positioned as a large-scale addition rather than a small content pack. With a brand-new map, story arc, and endgame-level challenges, Shadow of the Erdtree is expected to be a major moment for the game’s community ahead of its June release.
