Final Fantasy XVI is now available digitally on Xbox Series X|S, marking the first time the mainline numbered entry can be played on Xbox console hardware. The release was announced during the Xbox Games Showcase and arrives alongside an Xbox PC version with Xbox Play Anywhere support.
Players can choose between the standalone base game and the Final Fantasy XVI Complete Edition, which includes both post launch story DLC chapters. Square Enix also confirmed a free demo for Xbox Series X|S, with save data that carries over to the full game.
On the Microsoft Store, the base game is listed at $49.99 USD and the Complete Edition at $69.99 USD. Prices and availability can vary by region.
Square Enix describes Final Fantasy XVI as a dark fantasy action RPG set in Valisthea, where powerful beings called Eikons shape the fate of nations. Players follow Clive Rosfield as political conflict and a spreading Blight escalate into large scale Eikon battles.
According to the Final Fantasy Portal Site announcement, purchasing either edition on Xbox includes several in game bonus items.
Square Enix says the Final Fantasy XVI demo is available as a free download on Xbox Series X|S, and that save data from the demo can carry over to the full game. This lets players experience the opening hours before purchasing.
With Xbox Play Anywhere, one purchase on Xbox platforms grants access on Xbox console and Xbox PC, with shared entitlements and cross save. Microsoft also lists Xbox Cloud Gaming support for the title, depending on device and service availability in your region.
The Xbox launch is part of Square Enix’s broader multiplatform strategy and expands access to one of the franchise’s biggest recent releases. For players who buy games digitally, Xbox gift cards and Microsoft Store balance can be used for purchases, which can be useful for gifting or managing spend.
