PlayStation backtracks, Helldivers 2 PSN account linking update will not move forward.

Sony has reversed course on its plan to require PlayStation Network (PSN) account linking for Helldivers 2 players on Steam. In a May 6 statement, PlayStation said the account linking change scheduled to roll out that day will not move forward after strong player backlash.

The policy would have required new PC players to link a Steam account to PSN starting May 6, with existing players expected to comply beginning May 30. Many PC players objected to the late change, pointing to privacy concerns, the added friction of creating an extra account, and issues for players in countries where PSN is not officially supported.

The announcement triggered a rapid reaction across Steam and social media, including a wave of negative reviews. With the rollback, Helldivers 2 remains playable on Steam without mandatory PSN account linking, and Sony has indicated it will share any future plans later.

Key points

• The PSN account linking requirement planned for May 6 was cancelled.
• Existing players were previously expected to need linking starting May 30, this will not be enforced under the halted update.
• Backlash focused on the late policy change, privacy concerns, and PSN availability in many regions.
• Helldivers 2 remains playable on Steam without mandatory PSN linking for now.
