Astro Bot wins Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024.
Astro Bot has been crowned Game of the Year at The Game Awards 2024. The top prize was announced during the December 12 ceremony, where Team Asobi and Sony Interactive Entertainment’s cheerful platform adventure stood out in a stacked field of nominees.
Astro Bot was also the most awarded game of the night, earning four trophies in total. Alongside Game of the Year, it picked up Best Game Direction, Best Action/Adventure, and Best Family, a sweep that highlights how widely the game connected across categories.
The win caps off a strong year for a genre that rarely dominates major awards shows. Astro Bot’s success also reinforces Sony’s continued push for prestige single player releases on PlayStation 5, even as live service and multiplayer titles remain major forces across the industry.
What is Astro Bot?
Astro Bot is a standalone, full sized adventure (not a free pack-in like Astro’s Playroom). It is a single player platforming game built specifically for PlayStation 5, with the studio leaning heavily into the console’s controller features and fast loading.
According to official game information, Astro Bot sends players across more than 50 planets, with hundreds of collectibles and robots to rescue. The game also includes plenty of nods to PlayStation history, turning familiar characters and hardware references into part of the journey.
